Common Questions About CPR Certification & Training
Different jobs, schools, and clinical programs may require different credentials. These quick answers can help you narrow down the right training pathway before registering.
Which CPR certification should I take?
Choose based on your role and requirement. BLS is commonly used by healthcare professionals and clinical students; ACLS covers advanced adult cardiovascular emergencies; PALS focuses on pediatric emergency care; and Heartsaver is commonly used for workplace and community CPR, AED, and First Aid training.
What is the difference between BLS and Heartsaver?
BLS is designed around professional-level CPR, AED, airway, and team-response skills for healthcare settings. Heartsaver focuses on practical CPR, AED, and First Aid for workplaces, schools, childcare, coaches, and community responders. Always confirm the exact credential your employer or program requires.
Do I need BLS with ACLS or PALS?
ACLS and PALS build on foundational BLS skills, and many employers require a current BLS credential alongside ACLS or PALS. Requirements vary by employer and role, so confirm your policy before registering.
Can I complete CPR certification online?
Some courses offer blended learning through online coursework followed by a required hands-on skills session. Completing the online portion alone does not necessarily complete the certification. Visit our e-learning and blended course hub to compare available formats.
How long are AHA certification cards valid?
BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Heartsaver AHA eCards are generally valid for two years. Your employer, school, or licensing program may require renewal before the printed expiration date, so check your specific requirements.
Do you offer CPR training for groups and workplaces?
Yes. GEAR UP with CPR offers group and onsite training for hospitals, clinics, schools, workplaces, and other organizations. Available programs may include BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPR, AED, and First Aid depending on your team's needs.
