What You’ll Learn in BLS

  • Adult, child, and infant CPR with AED use
  • Two-rescuer team-based resuscitation & bag-valve-mask ventilation
  • Rescue breathing and choking relief (conscious & unconscious)
  • Recognition of cardiac arrest and stroke; special resuscitation situations
  • Overview of advanced airways and integrations during CPR
  • Hands-on skills practice and competency testing for same-day AHA eCard

BLS Frequently Asked Questions

BLS Provider (Initial) is for first-time students or those whose AHA BLS has been expired for a while. Training includes adult/child/infant CPR, AED use, and team-based response with a hands-on skills test. After passing, you’ll receive a same-day AHA eCard valid for 2 years. See course options.
Choose Renewal if you currently hold (or recently held) a valid AHA BLS card and your employer permits renewal. If your card is long expired, or you trained through a non-AHA program, book the Initial course. When in doubt, confirm with your employer or ask us.
It’s the in-person skills check after completing the AHA HeartCode BLS online module. Bring your HeartCode completion certificate to your scheduled skills session for same-day certification. Prefer a blended overview first? See our BLS e-learning page.
AHA BLS Provider eCards are valid for 2 years from the issue date. Most hospitals, schools, and employers recognize the AHA standard nationwide. When it’s time to renew, choose BLS Renewal.
If you’re current (or recently expired) and your employer allows it, book BLS Renewal. New to BLS, long-expired, or switching from a non-AHA card? Book BLS Provider (Initial).
